NMHA is partnering with the Española YMCA Teen Center for an afternoon of workshops, demos, conversations and exhibits.
Join us at the museum for a celebration of community, culture, collaboration and Lowriders!
The Española Teen Center’s Lowrider Art Program has become a powerful outlet for youth creativity, skill-building, and cultural pride. Through hands-on projects, teens explore metalwork, airbrushing, fabrication, and design while connecting to the Valley’s rich lowrider heritage. Special thanks go to Enterprise Bank & Trust for sponsoring Cruzin 2 Success, a key component of this year's program in which youth designed and built 1/10-scale lowrider cars. This gave the youth practical experience in design and fabrication while expanding the program’s creative reach.
Now in its second year of collaboration with the Nuevo Mexicano Heritage Arts Museum (formerly the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art), the program is featured in the annual Beyond the Bike exhibit. This partnership elevates the youth’s work—ranging from lowrider bikes to custom skateboards—onto museum walls, validating their efforts and redefining the museum as a space that reflects and celebrates living community culture. See the photos below - even better come by the Museum and see the work in person!
